My Passion for Fashion

After several months of hard work, my dream became a reality. I was announced this year's 1st place National winner for The Art Institute's Passion for Fashion Competition in the Fashion Marketing & Merchandising and Retail Management category for my retail store concept. I plan to open the women's boutique I developed through this process after graduation.

On Monday I hit the city of NYC on an all expense-paid trip and a full-tuition scholarship to Ai. The design category winner (Shayla Harris of San Antonio, Texas) and I attended Fashion Week and were lucky enough to go on a tour, lunch, and meet-and-greet with Seventeen Magazine. We attended Tuesday evening's Boy Meets Girl runway show during New York's Fashion Week. Natasha Bedingfield kicked off the show at Style 360 with her song 'Weightless'. Models sported chic lounge wear with grays, blacks, navy, army green and, of course, Stacy Igel's reoccurring silhouetted boy and girl logo. The next day, after the awards ceremony, we strutted down Times Square with our giant check and huge smiles. It was a truly amazing experience!

I've learned so much about myself and my capabilities and gained immense confidence from the experience as a whole. I know now that I can do anything I set my mind to and I refuse to lower my standards. Now, I am working towards becoming an even greater part in the industry and a positive role model. With my contributions and influence in the confidence building of every day women I hope to achieve this aspiration. I know earning my Bachelors at The Art Institute of Charlotte will bring me to that next level.
